Welcome to the Unravel Blog

Round of applause

June 10, 2014

Pretty good day. Filled with fort building.. turning chalk into paint and a date with my husband. .. after marriage counseling! Which is actually something we really look forward to.

Couple noteworthy things about today… 35 yrs ago my Mom gave me life.. today she put our application for the non-profit in the mail. Once it is received Unravel will be 501(c)3 pending, giving life to this new endeavor!!!!

And a friend came up with an idea of 35 for 35. My hope was 50,000.. to be halfway to our goal in the longest 4 months of my life..At dinner with Tony she sent me a picture text of the total.. at that goal. It has gone up since then. Right as the waitress was bringing over our giant cookie with ice cream on top I started crying..

Thank you. Truly and humbly I thank you. We thank you.

We didn’t want to name a non profit after JLK since it would make it about her and I would get too prideful.. so its about all the kids with cancer and the ones we are trying to prevent from getting cancer. Its about Unraveling pediatric cancer.

But this fund is in her name and I do connect it to her.. so it matters in that personal way to me..

I hate that she wasn’t here. I hate that we ate gluten for dessert. But tonight I am not drowning in the same sorrow I was last night. Tonight I feel grateful.. for kids that played well together.. for text messages and phone calls from family and friends (even the highly inappropriate one from my eldest brother!!).. and for the donations that have poured in to honor my daughter.

50,000… holy crap. We really might reach the 100,000 goal!

A whole different kind of happy birthday.. but it was.

We WILL hit $100k- no doubt! I thought about you and Jennifer (and the boys) all day yesterday…really, everyday. My Kids played in the sprinklers in our backyard and a rainbow appeared and I instantly thought of Jennifer. After the sprinklers were off, the Girls started coloring on a box. My eldest asked me how to spell Jennifer. They said it was for her. I overheard my 4.5 yr old tell my 7 year old “we have to color the whole thing because it is for Jennifer.” They wanted me to take a pic and send to Jennifer 🙂 So we did.

  14. Janice says:

    Hi Libby,

Ive never written before but I felt pulled to do so today. Im so sorry I cant really help financially with your fundraiser. I just graduated from college and about to attend medical school to become a doctor. Needless to say money is not something I have a lot of right now. I can give you this though. Libby, I know so many students so dedicated to helping families like you fight this disease. So many of my fellow students are going ahead in researching new treatments and therapies. I can promise you that they will work tirelessly until a cure is found. And I am so sure that your organization will help with that. For our premed graduation I directed many of them to this blog so that they may habe inspiration in all that they do. JLK deserved so much more. And with that in mind they will fight. I wish I was destined to be a part of that fight. As a physician, in a way of course I will be. But I am not cut out for research. However I can also say that you amd your entire family have inspired me to be a better doctor. Thank you Libby and JLK for that.

This is actually much longer tham I intended and k feel as thougn it is just a long stream of rambles. I am sorry for that. Haha I dont know if you will read this or not but I hope if you do it will bring some small comfort. And if you ever need a contact on the east coast I am here!
