a little update

May 27, 2014

I wanted to give a businessy type update. We are in the process of getting our 501c3 (non-profit) paper work ready to submit to the government.

It only take 100 hours!!!!!

Literally that’s how long they estimate it takes. My mom is a lawyer and has taken on this challenge.

We are building our board. We will be having our first meeting sometime in June.

New website is half way done. Meeting with the designers this weekend to keep working on it.

Rummage for a Cure. One of our fundraising ideas… basically garage/rummage/yard sales, with the proceeds going to Unravel Pediatric Cancer. .. which right now all the proceeds from anything we do is going directly to the Jennifer Lynn Kranz fund at Stanford. Hoping to be ready to launch that the mid summer.

Taking our time doing everything… in the hopes we do it mostly right the first time. We appreciate all the support and encouragement more than we can possibly explain.

  1. Kristen says:

    Great Work!
For the rummage sale, can we donate items to be sold? I don’t live in the area but could bring you a few items to be sold ahead of time.
What else can we do to help?
You are a fighter! Stay strong!

  11. Bridget Dolfi says:

Wonderful. Amazed at all you are doing. Joe and I have been going through boxes as we slowly move back in and have many items we were planning to donate to the St Nicholas rummage but would much rather donate to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. We will keep them for your rummage instead. What a great idea.

So exciting!! Please let me know how I can help!! XO lyndeehairston@hotmail.com

  13. Peg says:

So I was thinking about this a bit. I have promised to myself to spend a little more time thinking about what we can do. Of course we all care. We care about Libby & the Kranz family. But, how can our little army make everyone else care because that’s what this is going to take. Just wanted you to know I am thinking about this also.

    YES LIBBY!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!! <3

  19. Kimberlee says:

I’m all the way in Arkansas, but I’m most definitely willing to help all I can! I will participate and get a few neighborhood garage sales going, I know many ladies at our church that follow your blog daily, and a few of us are already in planning mode! At our last mom’s bible study/devotional group that I attend weekly, we spent almost our whole two hours talking and reflecting about your post ” will it matter in a month? “.. seems like just a simple statement, but it’s rather pOwerful I chose to look within , and i mean REALLY look at myself and all the times I should’ve said yes, or just stopped what I was doing- instead of saying -a line I’ve said WAY too often ” in a minute! ” or ok we will tomorrow”… I now try to always stop and think about ” will it matter in a month? “..and realize all the “no ..or not right now’s. . Maybe tomorrow. .. When I can etc etc or jUst lIttle things I get on to my kIds for. . My 12 year old tucks in all her clothes, including pajamas! And I’m stubborn, as is she , and I often said you’re not leaving til you fix that now I think number one ,will it really matter and number 2 it’s what makes her happy as long as it’s not going to hurt her-i shouldn’t complain about such trival things! !!. My list could go on and on but I’m changing and growing as a mama, and I see the differences in Our relationships with all 5 kIds, there have been very many of your posts that have resignatedt ed with so many mom’s – but that one blog post in many more years and I need for ever grateful

  20. Kimberlee says:

Please excuse all my typos! I wasn’t ready to got send but my one year old waS ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Nicole says:

A rummage sale is a great idea! We did one to help raise $ for my sisters mission trip. We raised about $1600 in one day and still have several large items to sell! And our reach is way smaller than yours. I would be glad to help out in any way when the time comes.

  22. Amy Ramos says:

Thinking of you! Thank you for the update.

My husband is in the process of setting up a 501(c) 3 as well and it does.take.forever.

Wishing you the best on this endeavor. I know it will be a success!

  27. grace says:

People who volunteer at the Garlic festival are able to donate their hours work to special causes. Have you though about maybe doing something with them since they are a local organization? I may be able to help you with this.

    • Love4JLK says:

From what I read the wait to do anything with the festival is years long… but we would of course love to be involved if feasible

      • grace says:

Contact me and I will let you know what I am talking about. There is a different approach to getting donations from the festival.

  28. Charla Herider says:

Wish I were closer to help you with rummage sales and the like. Instead, I’ve taken a big role here in a local pediatric cancer support group. I couldn’t be there for you and Jennifer, but I will be making a difference here in the Central Valley. You inspire me, Libby!

  29. Baidra Murphy says:

Thanks for the update, please keep us posted. Let us know if there is anything you need. Just ask. Much love.

  30. Leanne says:

And she’s back… Eye of the Tiger baby!!!

  31. Kimm says:

Yes, how can we become a Board Member or how how can we help you spread your good work through out the Sacramento Area? I am no longer working and recovering from my own brain surgeries last August and have followed your story all along, I want to continue to take your story all the way to the finish line!

  32. Nancy says:

    Great update!

100 hours…wow. Lots of time and effort put to an important cause. The rummage sale idea is genius: everyone/anyone can do that, wherever we are.

  36. Sarah smith says:

I’m super duper crazy impressed that you can do all this! We did a scholarship with the money that was donated in Johnnie’s name. It was so emotional and rewarding! We gifted two individuals that year. My family decided that once was enough for us. I commend you for sticking with it and continuing to push through the pain! You are way more amazing than you give yourself credit for!!!! With love, Sarah

  37. Silvia says:

Wonderful update! Keep us posted so we can help in any way we can ๐Ÿ™‚

  38. Greta says:

Will there be a way to build individual chapters in our respective cities. I am in Southern California, an hour east of Los Angeles . Let us know.

  39. I’m in Atlanta! I can help…in any way…

  40. Crystal says:

    Hi Libby,
Happy to hear about this! Make sure to post on how we can help you out when it’s time. I live in NH so I don’t think I can get there BUT I would love to assist.

  41. Vanessa says:

I’m excited to see the website and how we can help support in fundraising!

  42. Denise Pandya says:

thank you for the wonderful update, you are doing a great job!

  43. Leona says:

I will help in anyway I can
I am commited to the cause to spread JLKs glitter to raise awarness for more funding for childhood cancer. My last conversation with my dad was about JLK as he was planning to light a candle in his kitchen window in Ireland at the same time her Celebration of Life to show support. He light a candle for her in our parish church everyday where he worked. The last thing he said to me was “Ok I am talking the dog for a walk and when I get back I will light a candle for Jennifer and say some prayers for the little angel” me “thanks Dad. Appreciate the support. Will call you later to let you know how it went” dad never got to light the candle as when I was walking towards the gym at Valey Christian high I got a call from Ireland that Dad had a massive heart attack and was in the ICU. 2 weeks later he passed away and I know for sure he is looking out for her.
